New features that will be part of the KDE 3.5 release
  • support for 'table of contents' in sidebar, for DVI file that were generated with the 'hyperref' package

Features added in the KDE 3.4 release
  • Support for rotated text, used e.g. in the journals of the American Astronomical Society
  • Thumbnail previews
  • Support for graphic files in GIF, PNG or JPG format
General features
  • Continuous page view, similar to Apple's "Preview" program
  • Full page mode, for presentations, and for users who wish to use all of their screen
  • Compressed DVI files can be directly displayed in KDVI.
  • Colored text and colored backgrounds are supported
  • support for fonts in TeX PK, Type 1 and TrueType formats.
  • KDVI offers full text search.
  • Text can be copied from any DVI file and pasted into other applications.
  • DVI files can be transparently displayed in other applications, such as the kile TeX editor or the konqueror web brower. Most users will never realize KDVI is actually there: you just click on a DVI file and it is immediately displayed in place.
  • Continuous view of facing pages, similar to Adobe's "Acrobat Reader"
  • Hyperlinks both in HyperTeX and PDF format are supported and allow to quickly navigate your document.
  • KDVI contains a tool that allows to embed external PostScript files into DVI files so that you can store your documents as one convenient file.
  • Support for forward and inverse search. This is a very convenient feature that allows you to click into a DVI file, and your editor opens, loads the associated TeX files and automatically jumps to the proper line. If you use the (X)emacs or nedit editors, you can also go the other way.
  • PostScript parts of DVI files are fully supported.
Here is a document showing and explaining the various features of KDVI.
