Season of KDE 2006
SeeByTouch
A Season of KDE 2006 project by Klaus Rieger
Mentored by Olaf Jan Schmidt
Project Details
- Short: Integrating SeebyTouch into KDE allowing to feel pictures
- Long:
Please take first a look at the SeebyTouch homepage at sourceforge.net! Here you can how it is possible to feel pictures with free software!
Now to the faults (and what can be done better through integrating into KDE):
- The project uses QT - this is nice, but not so potent than the KDE libs (e. g. opening pictures over ftp, ssh, ...).
- The project looks nice, but it would be looking much nicer as native KDE application.
- It is possible to open nearly every picture, but only within the programm. An integration in KDE would allow to show every picture (e. g. in Konqueror)
- The various settings are part of the programm - a much better solution would be to put the settings into the control-center
- The projekt is yet as user-friendly as possible, but for visually handicapped it would be much more user-friendly if full integrated
- There are yet 7 translations, but I think as a KDE project it will attract more translators.
I'm sure that both projects (SeebyTouch and KDE) will benefit of the merge!
Milestone 1: Replace QT-libs with KDE-libs where sensible (1 month)
Milestone 2: Divide Programm KDE-like: settings as a control center part, allow to show pictures as an konqueror part, etc.) (2 month)
Milestone 3: Hunt bugs and make it better and better... (x month)
See http://see-by-touch.sourceforge.net/ for details.
