Project Details

Overview
This proposal details some ideas for improving the user experience of running Windows applications under Wine on KDE. It is based on the "KControl module for Wine" suggestion on the KDE Summer of Cod e wiki, although this proposal contains additional related ideas on ways in which the KDE framework can be used to enhance the way Windows applications are presented to users. Several existing Wine configurati on tools are analysed in the proposal, and suggestions made on how to improve upon their interfaces and functionalities when reimplemented in KDE.

Summary of deliverables
 - A KControl module that allows a user to configure their Wine installation.
 - Context menu entries for EXE files to allow per-application configuration.
 - KDE mime type association that ensures EXE files are always opened with Wine.
 - A KFileMetaInfo plugin to display the version and description information contained within an EXE file.
 - A means of displaying the icons from EXE and ICO files within Konqueror and file browser widgets.
