Kamion

A Season of KDE 2006 project by Ivan Cukic
Mentored by Thiago Macieira

Project Details

First of all, instead of forcing the devlopers to create (and know the syntax of) the Kamion files for their applications, my idea is to make a global repository of application signatures (something like anti-v irus databases) and to let the developers add their applications to it through a web interface. The Kamion application could connect to the database and update its signatures, or the distribution makers (the de bian way) could distribute the updates through their own update system and disable the automatic updating (like the debian did with Firefox for example).

The last screen of the wizard should have the options to "Send the data through Email", "Burn to CD using K3B", "Just save to disk"

As for the UI polishing you can see the mockups at the "Links to Further Information" address.
----------
Planned roadmap
(1 week) Creating good communication channel with the mentor.
(2-3 weeks) Creating a webpage and online system for application signatures. (will need a hosting on kde.org or somewhere else)
(1 week) Client library for the update system
The rest of the time is planned for making the update wizard (using the library) and polishing of the existing GUI.
