Notes:

The CVS will be put into read-only mode. Changes to the CVS will only be possible for a couple of maintainers (names to be published). They will apply patches when they have been approved by two core developers
The idea behind the release candidate is to be able to release as soon as all known showstoppers have been fixed
To allow translations and documentation, the final release will be not earlier then three weeks after the RC has been released

The mentioned date is the first possible release date. If serious problems are found, the release will be postponed until they are solved.
