KOffice 1.3 Release Plan

The following is the outline for our KOffice 1.3 release schedule.

The 1.3 release will come with major improvements in the following areas:

KWord

• hyphenation
• improved paragraph and list numbering
• support for bookmarks
• direct cursor
• new character attributes: word-by-word underlining, relative font sizes
• improved spellchecking (selection only, ignoring some words, access from context menu etc.)
• sorting of text
• new linespacing modes (exactly/at least/multiple)
• horizontal lines
• greater configurability (backup path, personal dictionary, personal expressions, picture path etc.)
• better loading of pictures (especially for remote files)
• improved UI for handling non-native file formats
• new MS Word import filter
• re-written RTF export filter (new: pictures, tables, footnotes)
• enhanced Latex export filter (new: pictures, footnotes)
• portable rewrite of the MS Write import filter
• new MS Write export filter

KSpread

• new date and time formats
• enhanced CSV import/export options
• improved external data manipulation
• subtotal dialog and formula
• support for default cell styles
• over 100 new formulas (date/time, math, statistical, financial, etc.)
• new Latex export filter
• drag'n'drop of selections
• protection of sheets or document structure
• improved printing (hires, wysiwyg)
• inserting special characters
• hierarchical (custom) styles

KPresenter

• hyphenation
• same improvements as KWord wrt text handling
• web export: better HTML generation, usability improvements of the wizard
• better loading of background pictures (especially for remote files)
• improved slide transition dialog featuring a preview of the effect
• drawing images with alpha channels
• customizable printing of slide notes

Kugar

• Redesign for the KOffice architecture
• Create reports with data and template stored in one file
• Print reports from command line
• Support for fields list in detail sections
• DCOP interface

Kugar Designer

• Redesign for the KOffice architecture
• New user-friendly interface
• Flexible property editing for report elements and multiple selections of elements
• Flexible placing and resizing report elements
• Cut, copy and paste for report items
• Undo/redo operations
• Manual z-ordering for report items
• DCOP interface

KFormula

• Support for multi-line formulae including element alignment
• Changeable char attributes
• New over- and underlines

Kivio

• Better KDE and KOffice integration
• Cleaned up user interface
• More Stencilsets
• Support for templates
• More arrowheads for the connectors

KoShell

• Ported to XMLGUI
• User can hide the sidebar now

Filters

New import and export filters for the OpenOffice.org application suite, as well as a PDF import filter for KWord.
