KOffice 1.2 Release Plan

The following is the outline for our KOffice 1.2 release schedule.
The 1.2 release will come with major improvements in the following areas:

WYSIWYG support in KWord, KPresenter and the formula objects
KPresenter redesign, including Zoom support
KSpread improvements
Kontour redesign
KFormula printing
New WordPerfect import filter
New MSWrite import filter
New PalmDoc and WML import/export filters
New Amipro import/export filter
New XSLT import/export filter
New vector drawing program added: Karbon
Improved DCOP scriptability in all KOffice applications

(This list is being completed while adding the features, it's far from being the definitive list yet)

All dates given here are subject to revision, but we will try out best to stick to them if possible.

KOffice 1.2 will be released independently from KDE 3.0. The KDE 3.0 release schedule can be found here.

Thursday April 11, 2002

KOffice is temporarily frozen : bugfix commits only.

Wednesday April 17

Tarballs are made out of KOffice, for KOffice 1.2 Beta 1
They are made public immediately, and given to packagers for creation of binary packages. KOffice is open for commits again.

Monday April 22

Announce KOffice 1.2 Beta 1.

Monday June 10

The HEAD branch of KOffice is frozen : no new features, bugfixes commits only, no commit that modifies an application's behaviour, and message freeze. This freeze will last till the release of KOffice 1.2!

Monday June 17

The HEAD branch of CVS is tagged KOFFICE_1_2_BETA2, and tarballs are made. They are made public immediately, and given to packagers for creation of binary packages.

Monday June 24

Announce KOffice 1.2 Beta 2

KOffice 1.2 Release Candidate

Monday July 15

KOffice goes into deep-freeze. All commits should be posted for review first.

Monday July 22

The HEAD branch of CVS is tagged KOFFICE_1_2_RC1, and tarballs are made. They are made public immediately, and given to packagers for creation of binary packages.

Thursday August 08

Announce KOffice 1.2 Release Candidate

KOffice 1.2 final

Tuesday August 13

Last day for documentation changes.

Thursday August 29

Last day for translations, icons and critical bugfixes commits.

Friday August 30

The HEAD branch of CVS is tagged KOFFICE_1_2_RELEASE and the day is spent testing the release a final time.

Sunday September 01, 2002

The tarballs are made and released to the packagers.

The next 4 days are spent testing the tarballs, packaging and writing the announcement and changelog.

Thursday September 05

The source and binary packages are uploaded to ftp.kde.org to give some time for the mirrors to get them.

Friday September 06

Announce KOffice 1.2.

Sunday December 01

Last day for translations and (approved) critical bugfixes commits.

Monday December 02

The KOFFICE_1_2_BRANCH branch of CVS is tagged KOFFICE_1_2_1_RELEASE and the day is spent testing the release a final time.
