Special Rules for KDEPIM 3.3

Feature Freeze

The feature freeze for KDEPIM 3.3 will be on May 24th 2004. After that no new features are accepted for the HEAD branch until the 3.3 release is done, unfinished features will be disabled and we will concentrate on bug fixing. The exceptions of the KDE 3.3 release schedule which give additional time to the features listed in the feature plan do not apply to KDEPIM.

As there have been implemented a lot of new features for KDEPIM 3.3 we need the time to stabilize them. We don't accept new features after the feature freeze so that developers can concentrate on fixing bugs. In addition to that it will give documentation writers more time to update the documentation without chasing new features.

Compatibility with KDE 3.2 environment

To make it possible to use and develop KDEPIM 3.3 on systems using the current stable KDE version we have a compatibility policy for the KDEPIM HEAD branch:

• kdepim has to compile and run within the released stable 3.2 environment, no dependencies on changes in the kde HEAD branch later than 3.2.0. This also includes compatibility with Qt 3.2, no dependencies on a Qt version later than Qt 3.2 which is the version required by KDE 3.2, and it also includes dependencies on other non-kdepim libraries. kdepim-3.3 has to be a drop-in replacement for kdepim-3.2.

History

Originally KDEPIM 3.3 was planned to be released separatly from the rest of KDE. The release was set up as feature-driven release with the release cycle started on completion of four of six key features. The fourth key feature was completed a few weeks before the KDE 3.3 release cycle began, therefore we've synchronized the KDEPIM 3.3 release cycle with the KDE 3.3 release cycle. KDEPIM 3.3 will be released as part of KDE 3.3.
