  • Born June 10, 1980 in Beaumont, Texas
  • Linux user since 1996
  • Studied Computer Science, mostly at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan
  • Was primarily interested in Genetic Algorithms and Quantum Computation
  • Have been in Germany since 2001, am now a permanent resident
  • Co-founded Directed Edge in Berlin, Germany in 2008
  • Worked for Native Instruments in Berlin, Germany from 2006 - 2008
  • Previously at the SAP LinuxLab in Walldorf, Germany from 2002 - 2006
  • Author of JuK, FlashKard, TagLib, KSig, and a few classes in the libraries, fixed a bunch of bugs
  • Currently dabbling in Information Retrieval and generalized desktop linkage strategies

  • Long running symbiosis between music and technology

    • Play electric and double bass, guitar, hand percussion, and earlier in my life a few other instruments
    • Started amassing studio equipment and doing ad hoc production and editing as a young teenager
    • Work for a company that produces electronic music production software
    • Produce some electronica myself, a departure from my former life in rock, blues and jazz
    • First GUI program (circa 1994) was for organizing guitar tableture
    • Large music collection (several hundred CDs, now MP3s) drew me to organization and metadata
  • Stockpiler of books and arm-chair enthusiast in philosophy, history, politics, literature
  • Visited 26 countries on 5 continents
  • Speak German and Spanish at a conversational level
